We operate from 7:30am until 6:00pm and are open throughout the year with exception of the statutory holidays.
There are 4 childcare rooms, the Young Baby Room for children aged 6 weeks to 1 year, the Baby Room for children aged 1-2, Toddler Room for the 2-3 year old children and Pre School Rooms for 3-5 year olds.
The staff at Abbey Nursery have been appointed following a careful selection process in accordance with Care Commission requirements and therefore will be qualified to a high standard in childcare practice. We are committed to ongoing staff development and training and all staff have a first aid certificate and child protection training.
At Abbey Nursery we feel that parents/carers are the most important people in a child’s life. Therefore, we aim to form a strong link between nursery and home by involving you as much as possible.
We want you as parents/carers to feel confident to be able to talk freely with your child’s keyworker at any time and to feel confident that any issues discussed are confidential between yourself, the keyworker and the Nursery manager if appropriate.
We welcome opportunities for you to discuss your child’s progress with their keyworker at our regular parent’s evenings and will keep you informed of activities your child takes part as well as the learning outcomes on an ongoing basis. We are available to discuss your child at any time but you are welcome to make an appointment for any issues which require lengthier discussion.
In the baby rooms you will be provided with a detailed feedback sheet and a member of staff who has been with your baby for most of the day will be available for you to speak to. In the 2–3 and 3–5 rooms important feedback is still noted but as a member of the eco-schools programme we are attempting to reduce the amount of paper we use so information will be passed to you verbally by a member of staff.
We feel that nursery outings are an important way for children to learn about the world around them and the children go on local outings to the park, library, museum , etc. on a regular basis. With the help of parents we are also able to take the children to places like the safari park, sealife centre or farm park.
We have a wide range of policies which assist in the smooth operation of the nursery and they are available for you to view on request.
The nursery is inspected on an annual basis by the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care and reports can be viewed at www.carecommission.com
As providers of pre school education we are also inspected by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education and their reports can be viewed at www.hmie.gov.uk
